ABSTRACT
Within the general concept of town planning as the determinant of the use of land in the interests of society, two concepts which have been elevated to the status of guiding aims and principles, have emerged during the last half century. These are the preservation and reinforcement of the traditional basis of Neighbourhood as the ‘desirable unit of urban living’, and the separation of different kinds of land-use by the device of Zoning.
