ABSTRACT

In this chapter, studies of the impact of AIDS on particular sectors will be reviewed. Studies of both private sector firms (or companies) and farmers are included here. The most obvious inference that any reader will draw is that impact studies at the sectoral level have been hopelessly patchy, with limited coverage and often a lack of clarity about sampling. Also, that most studies have been carried out in geographic areas or in specific sectors where HIV prevalence is suspected of being high, so it is not clear to what extent the findings can be generalized to other sectors or to the rest of the country.
