ABSTRACT
It is my intention to explore specific dynamic processes within group analytic art groups. The main theoretical formulations are presented in earlier papers (McNeilly 1983, 1984), and are based upon the writings of S. H. Foulkes. I will also explore the image and groups of images as multiple layers which one sees as the final picture. Although Foulkes (1983) and Bion (1961a, 1961b) are central to my thesis, I suggest that the framework of this particular type of art therapy is a development of my own, although other colleagues work in this way today.
