ABSTRACT
For the first 150 years or so, Sino-American education trade was almost entirely one-way. Thousands of China's students were eager to earn degrees in prestigious U.S. universities, but few Americans were inclined to seek instruction from less-prestigious and far-less-developed Chinese institutions. Since the 1990s China has been on a course to change that. For more than two decades the Chinese government has dedicated ever-increasing sums toward the improvement of its system of higher education, and the changes are already quite remarkable.
