ABSTRACT
Recent research with a particular political community of Indigenous people from southeast Australia and some of the non-Indigenous supporters of their ongoing struggle for survival and justice demonstrates the political importance of transforming the subjectivities of the privileged. This chapter will discuss some ways in which non-Indigenous people involved in this struggle are attempting to understand and resist dominance. Excerpts from interviews with non-Indigenous people who accept that they are positioned as ‘colonisers’ will give insight into how they have developed critical distance from their positioning and how this has felt—how they have experienced a sense of moving from one place to another within their positioning.
