ABSTRACT

The Internet has been through some massive changes and several dramatic reversals of fortune since its origins in the late 1960s. The World Wide Web is a portion of the Internet that makes it possible to link Web pages with each other, and to search the entire Web for a particular topic or name. The parts of the world with the greatest amount of connectivity, in terms of the percentage of the population, were North America (79 percent), Oceania/Australia (68 percent), and Europe (63 percent). A New York Times reporter calculated that it would take 72 hours to watch all the videos posted to YouTube in just one single minute. Webcam drama is one of the most unique storytelling forms on the Web and would not work on any other medium. The Internet has successfully recovered from the dot-com bust at the turn of the millennium and has proven to be a robust vehicle for new kinds of entertainment experiences.
