ABSTRACT

180A bright mood, dark foreboding, light of heart, a dark look … language shows how deeply entrenched are our ideas about tone. Relative brightness and darkness is one of the key mood-inducing qualities of an image. It can be a subtle thing; having the focal point of an image gently lighter and more contrasty will attract attention to it even without the viewer being aware of it. It can also be the first thing you notice, and even the subject of the image itself.
