ABSTRACT
In 1978, Deng Xiaoping made his first state visit to Singapore. He was very impressed by Singapore as a small city-state that had achieved successful economic and social development. In his Nanxun speech in early 1992, Deng specifically singled out Singapore as a country enjoying both high economic growth and good social development. China should learn from Singapore and do better than Singapore.
