ABSTRACT

There are moments so beautiful, so rich in delight, that the tongue has no words, and the heart as it were shuts itself off against the articulation of emotion, and one of these has always come over me when I have been with you. I know well that you have gone through a baptism of fire of your innermost desires, and now look forward full of hope towards the future of our youths, now that we love each other through real experience and times of danger. But childhood love and the ardour of youth is the hottest of loves, the saying goes. So you will be my strongest spur, and a good woman makes the man steadfast, and the best wages I can have for my labour are if what I do may meet your approval. I would pray to God fervently and from the depths of my soul that he turn our plans to happiness, and strengthen us both on our way along the treacherous path of life.
