ABSTRACT

We preface this chapter by addressing the paucity of research in the area. As dissociation is beginning to receive attention among mental health professionals, psychological treatments will emerge with more research. Acceptance-oriented approaches have generated new dialogue regarding treating dysfunctional behavior patterns. Research linking dissociation to acceptance is lacking, but a strong theoretical foundation indicates links between the phenomenon of dissociation, and acceptance-oriented treatment. This chapter elucidates the theoretical links and describes mindfulness and acceptance strategies for managing dissociation and depersonalization.
