ABSTRACT

The liquid emulsions of today are much the same as what has been around since the early beginnings of photography. According to Mark Osterman, the Process Historian at the George Eastman House, the rst experiments using silver halide emulsions with gelatin were done as early as 1853 by Marc Gaudin. Gaudin was not successful, but it piqued interest, and other experiments using gelatin began. By the 1880s gelatin-based emulsions were manufactured and photography grew into the industry we have today.
