ABSTRACT

The global population has increased from 3 billion in 1960 to 7 billion in 2012 and is heading towards 9 billion by 2050. Such a tripling of the world’s population within a 90 year period is inevitably likely to place an enormous burden on the resources available to sustain the population and significant changes to the fabric of society may be anticipated. During such a rapid inflationary phase there is likely to be significant differentiation as different groups of people attempt to meet their needs in different ways. We may anticipate a very dynamic time with increased interaction and turbulence. If we are able to relate to each other at a human level, subject to subject rather than subject to object, this could be a very creative period in which the growing diversity and connectivity create conditions promoting extensive and intricate geometries of thinking. This requires refining our skills for promoting a meeting of minds.
