ABSTRACT

Communicative language teaching approaches had a clear impact on the way foreign languages were taught in different settings (Savignon, 2001). From a grammar-based syllabus, mainly consisting in the presentation of different structures that students had to learn (with the wrong underlying assumption that they will actually learn them in that order), some teachers in foreign language contexts slowly moved to a syllabus that gave the learners’ oral abilities a greater importance.
