ABSTRACT
In the Disney-Pixar film A Bug’s Life , an ant named Flik stands up to Hopper, the leader of a gang of grasshoppers who tyrannize the ant colony. As winter approaches, however, many of Hopper’s gang are not interested in going back to Ant Island to deal with one rebellious ant. Hopper demonstrates the importance of dealing with Flik through a brilliant, if violent, metaphor:
“Let’s pretend this grain is a puny little ant,” Hopper says, throwing a few seeds at a couple of reluctant gang members. He asks, “Did that hurt?”
