ABSTRACT

The contributors to this book have noted several advances in theories and measurement of individual adaptability; they also raised critical conceptual and assessment issues that require further examination. The contributors have shown how adaptability may be manifested in various work contexts, but they have also suggested areas where more research is needed. This concluding chapter addresses conceptual, assessment and contextual issues in order to identify the current trends and emerging themes in the research on individual adaptability. The chapter begins by identifying three current trends, and ends with a list of emerging themes to consider for future research to advance the conceptual and methodological bases for studying individual adaptability. Throughout the chapter, issues will be discussed with reference to the relevant literature, and illustrated using issues presented in various chapters in this book.
