ABSTRACT

We saw in Chapter 5, that the prototypical classical conditioning demonstration involves a dog, restrained in a harness, salivating in response to a buzzer or flashing light that is paired with food delivery. Earlier we had seen in Chapter 2, that the prototypical demonstration of operant conditioning involves a rat in a Skinner box pressing a lever from time to time and receiving a food pellet. At first sight, there are more differences than similarities between these two situations; the delivery of food seems to be the only common factor.
