ABSTRACT

Introduction: a community of learning – and some unlearning? A German landseer dog we know named Ossi undertook behaviour training and was duly, if rather incomprehensibly, awarded a certificate yet still behaves disgracefully in the house and equally appallingly when out for walks. His training was evidently inadequate and the core principles of appropriate dog behaviour have not been sustained nor internalised. Ossi has much unlearning still to do. In similar vein, one secondary colleague in discussion about the impact of primary MFL for him at Key Stage 3 commented: 'It [primary MFL] requires some unlearning of habits of a lifetime.'
