ABSTRACT

Using silent films as a starting point the children will use digital video cameras to record scenes that they have planned by creating a storyboard. The clips are downloaded to the computer and edited using software. Using digital effects and titles a short film is created. A musical accompaniment is composed and recorded or performed live to respond to the action and moods of the film. As the music is one of the key creative components, listening to the soundtrack alone and trying to interpret the action on a simple storyboard would set the scene. The activities are best carried out in mixed ability groups with opportunities for collaborative planning. The film needs to tell a short story that can be developed through drama before being planned and recorded as a series of sketches with explanations on a storyboard.
