ABSTRACT

Plenty of free play opportunities with the paint software that is to be used for this project will help the children become familiar with the tools and behaviour of the software. At the centre of the children’s experience are three key uses of information and communication technology. Firstly making marks on the screen using the tools available; secondly copying and pasting or resizing those marks to produce identical images or repeat patterns; and thirdly flipping or rotating parts of their painting to produce symmetrical designs. Using the paint tools the children practise making marks and use the colour palette to include different coloured shapes. A number of different challenges can be introduced to develop control of the tools, including following lines and making enclosed shapes that can be filled with colour.
