ABSTRACT

A typical keyword search on an internet search engine will return hundreds of thousands of web pages in less than half a second. A type of ‘treasure hunt’ template for their topic, with a finite number of pieces of information required, can also scaffold less experienced children; clues or links to specific sites will make their searching less frustrating. The variety of types of information can be shown through demonstration and by setting expectations for the children’s topic books to contain a defined minimum range of types and sources. Children should have had experience of using these edit functions in their work before, both within a document and between applications. The children will further develop their understanding that because the clipboard holds information that is copied or cut and that paste will paste whatever is on the clipboard, information and communication technology-based information is provisional and easily edited.
