ABSTRACT

The project described in this chapter has Year 3 children in mind, but the activities could readily be adapted for any age group. For younger children, such as those in Year 2, the activities may need to be structured more carefully – or the playscript could be written by the whole class as a shared writing activity. Older or more experienced children will gain a great deal by exploring the digital sound-editing software and creating their own sound effects by combining and/or modifying those which already exist. Before attempting to write their own playscript, the children will need to gain some familiarity with the structure, format and style of writing of this genre. Once the scripts have been written the children will need to produce a list of the sound effects they require. If all the children are working on adaptations of the same story, then the sound effects needed are likely to be the same or at least very similar.
