ABSTRACT
Introduction The Specialist Schools Trust was founded in 1987 to play a lead role in establishing
15 City Technology Colleges and played a key function in obtaining the funding for
them. The first schools emphasised technology, mathematics and science. Language
Colleges were added in 1995 and Sports and Arts Colleges the next year. The first
Business and Enterprise Colleges opened in 2002. The Trust's mission is to 'build a
world-class network of innovative, high-performing secondary schools in
partnership with business and the wider community'.
