ABSTRACT

“Surely the most devastating among the many upsetting changes I've experienced thus far was the tragedy of watching my first wife deteriorate from the meaningless ravages of Alzheimer's disease. For two years, I watched her deteriorate into little more than a vegetable. The task of caring for her and teaching full time became an almost unbearable load. The folly of judging the situation to be good or bad became increasingly clear the worse things seemed to get. There could, after all, be no rational justification to account for such a tragedy.”
