ABSTRACT
“During World War II, I was in a U.S. Navy guerilla army—12 American marines and sailors and 250 Chinese soldiers based in northwest China, in the Gobi Desert in Inner Mongolia. What a wonderful life I would have missed if I had been killed at age 24 in another of the senseless wars brought on by incompetent political leaders and military ‘heroes.’”
