THE RELENTLESS QUEST OF THE INFORMATION AGE The explosion of knowledge and technology in mathematics, science, and information processing and a rapidly emerging global economy require systemic reforms at all levels of education. New performance standards and advanced technologies have changed the educational requirements of the workforce. Skills once demanded only of white-collar workers and technical elites are now required for everyone. International competition and new technologies dictate the need for a well-educated workforce.
