ABSTRACT

This is the first of four chapters that address intervention approaches from their learning theory foundations. Beginning with identification as one- or two-stage models, there follows an introduction to learning theorists and their works that are germinal to the examples of interventions that ensue. Each chapter includes analyses of applications of typical intervention strategies and finishes with sample problem scenarios for the reader’s practice. Because counselors apply their knowledge and skills in a variety of settings, sometimes in a consulting capacity, a variety of application scenarios is included.
