ABSTRACT
Counselors find that many families coming for help are different from the “normal” mother-father-children family unit. Many children are living with a single parent. The overall divorce rate is well over 40%, and even greater for some ethnic groups. Live-in mates without the benefit of marriage are common. All of these situations present special problems for the family counselor as these families seek assistance.
