ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is threefold: first, to explore how death and life-threatening illness affect children and young adolescents emotionally; sec­ ond, to give an overview of children’s possible overt reaction to death and lifethreatening illness, given their age and experience; and third, to offer sugges­ tions and activities for helping children work through their losses. I specifically have featured working with 5-to 14-year-old children.
