ABSTRACT

Transitions are inevitable in today’s rapidly changing culture. Our ability to manage these transitions is inextricably related to our attitudes about ourselves. The higher our self-esteem, the better we are able to cope with changes of all types. The more positive our self-esteem, the more likely we are to take risks and initiate transitions that result in self-expansion and self-improvement, and the more likely we are to adequately cope with the inevitable rhythms of change. With positive self-esteem we can move from looking at change as an unwelcome intruder to seeing it as a welcome guest; for with change comes not only loss but opportunity for growth.
