ABSTRACT

As discussed in Chapter 2, Enhancing Self Esteem, numerous factors influence the development of self-concept and self-esteem. One of these is the child-self, the child-self within all adults. Everyone has a self-estimate called the child-self which represents aspects of the child we once were. The child-self is welcomed and integrated by those of high self-esteem. The child-self is discounted and often repudiated by those of low self-esteem. When one is aware of the child-self, spontaneity and playfulness result. Not understanding that child-self often leads to inappropriate adult behavior and low self-esteem.
