ABSTRACT

Most of the hypothesis testing procedures described in this book assume sampling is from a normal distribution. In contrast, the procedures in this chapter make no assumptions about the form of the distribution from which you are sampling--the only assumption is that you are sampling from a continuous distribution. However, the procedures described in this chapter are not necessarily intended to be substitutes for the techniques designed to make inferences about population means. Instead, these procedures are intended for making inferences about other properties of a distribution. This point will be clearer when the null hypotheses are described.
