The goal in this chapter is to cover some of the more basic issues relevant to analyzing categorical data, and to indicate some of the practical problems that you might encounter. For further information on analyzing categorical data, the excellent books by Agresti (1984), Fleiss (1973), and Fienberg (1980) can be consulted.
