ABSTRACT

In this piece I returned to some of the evolutionary issues treated less theoretically in "Raffaela's Hug" ( Part II ): the notion that therapist burnout (or, as it is now fashionably called, "compassion fatigue") and boundary violations may be evidence not just of individual psychopathology but of a mismatch between our behavioral-genetic inheritance and the world we must inhabit. "Eden" appeared in Psychiatric Times, June 2001.
