ABSTRACT

I close this section, and this second edition of my book, with a reminiscence from two decades' distance, published in a Voices issue on the theme of "Rituals in Psychotherapy: Beginnings and Endings" (Winter 2001). It was not intended as an example of good therapy, adequate management of the transference, or any other such thing. I tried instead to be as honest as I could about the hazards and rewards of learning to be my own kind of therapist, and my bewilderment on finding that I have somehow halfway succeeded.
