ABSTRACT
Emotion-its expression, repression, and displacement within the family and among the generations-is another important theme in the MFG. The Emotions Genogram is another powerful microscopic lens that illuminates the emotional tone of family process, structure, and dynamics. The purpose of Emotions Genograms is to trace the emotional history of the individual and the family system. It gives the clinician a framework in which to promote clinically relevant and useful emotional work during the treatment process. Clinicians can use it to facilitate the constructive expression of emotions by clients.
