ABSTRACT

The genogram is an essential clinical tool that helps practitioners obtain and maintain a broad systemic view of the client and the family system. The MFG, with the Basic Genogram, Focused Genograms, Family Maps, and Time Lines, organizes and expands the use of the genogram beyond its traditional bounds. Focused Genograms are an important assessment and clinical tool that can be added to the clinician's practice strategy. However, learning to use the structure and methods of the MFG is a gradual process for most clinicians.
