ABSTRACT

This chapter overviews basic information about the personality dynamics, job demands, and lifestyle of the senior executive for the clinician-consultant who does corporate therapy and consultation. It begins by describing the job expectations and demands of executives, the differences between male and female executives, and the motivational and leadership styles of executives. The work-personality styles of healthy and effective executives are then elaborated. Finally, the healthy executive is contrasted with the distressed and impaired executive. This chapter provides background for the discussion of coaching, consultation, and psychotherapy with executives in Chapter 8.
