ABSTRACT

With the emergence of managed care for mental health services, there is an emphasis to provide services at less cost (Gray, 1991). As such, this usually means providing less service. Most mental health professionals desire to provide high quality service and there lies the dilemma; that is, how to provide high quality service that meets the needs of the patient while at the same time reducing the length of treatment and it's overall cost. Fortunately, many practitioners who work with children, adolescents, and families have been doing this type of therapy long before the advent of managed care (Haley, 1976; Watzlawick, Weakland, & Fisch, 1974).
