ABSTRACT

Their plan begins with a Patient Impairment Profile (using the acronym PIP) because it is their belief that thinking in the language of impairments is the best way to cast the treatment plan so that it will be satisfactory to the managed care company. Impairments meet the managed care criteria for behavior that can be objectified and quantified. Only active impairments go into the construction of the treatment plan and the impairments chosen as the focus of treatment are those that are expected to improve through use of the provider's therapeutic plan.
