ABSTRACT

Support for this perspective comes from a variety of research, typically involving a group of subjects who are instructed to behave "as if" they were hypnotized and mixed with a group of subjects who were formally hypnotized. A number of "experts" in hypnosis were challenged to discover which individuals were and were not

truly hypnotized. Subjects who role-played hypnotic behavior were extremely convincing and were able to successfully confound the experts.
