ABSTRACT
Vietnam is a developing country situated in South-East Asia with approximately 86 million people. Education, especially higher education, has held a highly valued and respected position in Vietnam, hence the Vietnamese government states that education is the first priority of national policies. The development of Vietnamese higher education is closely linked to the history of the country. This section of the chapter first briefly describes the historical context of Vietnamese higher education and then analyses the current higher education system and its structure.
