ABSTRACT

If as educators we are seeking to foster learners’ prospective identities in a digital age, then we need to understand how to approach four aspects of being a learner:

1. agency: active participation in the social and cultural contexts in which we are learners;

2. tools: our relationship with technologies and the role they might play in our engagement in intelligent action;

3. context: creating and shaping learning environments which are appropriate for the demands of our lives and futures;

4. improvisation: imagining and constructing new contexts and communities to meet the challenges of our learning lives.
