ABSTRACT

This is the first of four chapters that are framed by the concept of capital, referring to the rich range of resources that a self-managing school may draw on to become a self-transforming school. The use of capital in this sense was explained in Chapter 3, based on findings in the International Project to Frame the Transformation of Schools. The four chapters are organised in this way: financial capital (Chapters 10 and 11), social and spiritual capital (Chapter 12) and intellectual capital (Chapter 13).
