ABSTRACT

June is named after the Roman goddess Juno. This goddess played a nurturing role. She looked after hearth and home, and was often associated with fire and cooking. As a mother goddess, she is warm and caring, and represents new growth, which we see all around us at this time of year. With this in mind, the activities that I have linked to the festivals this month encourage young children to connect with each other, whether that's physically through movement, or by creating a common landscape and building stories and pictures. By engaging in different ways, we learn the importance of sharing experience to build common ground. This is a key skill that helps us celebrate the similarities and differences that make us who we are.
