ABSTRACT

Despite the fact that he is primarily known for his vocal and instrumental works, Ton de Leeuw is a composer who has never really considered composers’ being forced into categories as having any relevance. De Leeuw attempts to transcend all such boundaries (of being an instrumental or computer or audio-visual or installation or whatever composer) by possessing a more universal sense of music as a phenomenon based on organized notes and sounds. In the case at hand, the blend of notes and sounds of the live bass clarinet and recorded synthesizer was the composer’s experiment.
