Appraisal of flood risk management for agriculture

The management of flood risk to farm land has been, and remains, an important element of support to the agricultural sector in Britain. Many floodplain and coastal areas have benefited from publicly funded flood control and land drainage schemes (Morris, 1992) that have reduced flood damage and provided opportunities for more productive farming. Indeed, approximately half of Britain’s Grade 1 agricultural land depends on flood risk management schemes of one kind or another.
