ABSTRACT

Unless you are already a US citizen or lawful resident of the US, you will need a visa and permit to work there. Several different categories of visa exist, such as non-immigrant, immigrant and temporary worker, and it is important that you take the correct route. The O Visa category of non-immigrant temporary worker includes people who display extraordinary achievement in the TV or film industry and lasts up to three years but the visa application will need supporting paperwork and evidence. The employer must apply by petitioning USCIS (US Citizenship and Immigration Services) or going via a US agent and your application must be approved before you can apply for the visa. You should contact your local embassy or consulate for further information, and you may need an interview – there are fees attached. The permit to work, Employment Authorisation Document (EAD), is also required by foreign nationals.
