ABSTRACT
Probably one of the best documented is the barchan or lunate dune. As
with most dunes they have a gentle windward slope and a steep accretionary
foreset directed downwind at either end of the slipface. Barchans are very
photogenic and photos are common in many text books. Their internal struc-
tures have also been studied in some detail. This effort is probably largely
unnecessary because it is unlikely that barchan dunes actually get preserved.
Barchans are isolated dunes out away from the big sand seas. They general-
