ABSTRACT

Mixed terrigenous:carbonate shorelines are defined as those in which car-

bonate deposition occurs so close to the land that it contributes, not just to

the open sea sediments, but also to the shoreline deposits themselves (see

p. 132). These conditions can be brought about by three factors acting singly

or in concert. Low input of terrigenous sediment to the shoreline may be due

to low runoff or, i f the hinterland is low-lying, low sediment availability.
