ABSTRACT
The continental shelf extends from low tide to the 200 m isobath. This water depth normally marks the boundary between the gently sloping continental shelf, and the continental slope. This continues, with a steeper dip of some 4° , down to the continental rise. The continental shelf edge marks the aproximate limit of continental crust.
